About this programme

Pumps consume a disproportionate share of plant energy and cause a disproportionate share of unplanned downtime — usually because they are run outside the operating window they were selected for.

This two-day programme moves beyond basic pump operation into performance analysis, troubleshooting and system optimisation. Delegates work through pump components and classifications, piping systems and pressure losses, and NPSHa versus NPSHr.

The second half addresses pump curves and best operating point, pumps in series and parallel, the affinity laws, maintenance strategies, and practical pump station optimisation.

  • Module 3 — Pumps in series and parallel: when and how to use each configuration
  • Module 3 — Pump affinity laws: predicting the effect of speed and impeller diameter changes
  • Module 3 — Measuring and monitoring pump performance over time
  • Module 4 — Pump selection: choosing the right pump for the duty
  • Module 4 — Pump maintenance and common problems: proactive strategies to avoid downtime
  • Module 4 — Bearings and drive units
  • Module 4 — Valve types: a practical guide to selection and flow control
  • Module 4 — Pump station optimisation: maximising overall system efficiency
